Since I am one of the members on campus, I took pictures of Toff the cat and Oscar the penguin in the library to use for photogrammetry. Toff was easier to take pictures of and the initial 3D model with low-quality alignment, low-quality dense cloud, and medium quality mesh looks great!

Oscar the penguin was more difficult since it was inside a case, and I couldn’t take pictures of the back of the sculpture. To get around this problem, I decided to make a 3D model including the case. Due to Oscar’s large size and to make sure the case was included in the pictures, I ended up with 90 photos, resulting in a long processing time. The 3D model looks alright, but the back of the penguin and the wall doesn’t look as great.

For these 3D models, I would love to use a higher-quality setting. However, when I used a high-quality photo alignment and dense cloud setting for Toff’s model, my computer froze and ended up having to force quit the process. I am considering trying higher settings on the lab computers at Carleton to see how different the models are from the lower quality settings. Even if we can’t, I am satisfied with the current models that we have and am excited to place these on our website.
We have a general idea of how we want to structure and design our website, so our next step would be to build it using WordPress. We want to have a page devoted to each mascot that includes the 3D model, a description of the history of the mascot, and the pictures that we took for photogrammetry. For Toff, we found fun photos of Toff in different costumes, so we are also planning to include a photo album of different themed Toffs.
